Card Grading & Condition Guide
Understanding Card Conditions
At Stardust Dragon Duel Academy, we use industry-standard grading to ensure you know exactly what you're getting. All our cards are carefully inspected and accurately graded.
Condition Grades Explained
Near Mint (NM)
What it means: The card appears fresh from the pack with minimal to no visible wear.
Characteristics:
- No creases, bends, or scratches
- Sharp corners with minimal whitening (only visible under close inspection)
- Clean surface with no scuffs or print lines
- Centered printing (minor centering issues acceptable)
- No edge wear visible to the naked eye
Best for: Collectors, competitive players, grading submissions
Lightly Played (LP)
What it means: The card shows minor wear from light play or storage.
Characteristics:
- Minor edge whitening visible on close inspection
- Very light scratches on surface (not easily visible)
- Slight corner wear
- No creases or bends
- Overall clean appearance from normal viewing distance
Best for: Players, budget-conscious collectors
Moderately Played (MP)
What it means: The card has noticeable wear from regular play.
Characteristics:
- Visible edge whitening on multiple edges
- Noticeable surface scratches or scuffs
- Corner wear clearly visible
- Minor border wear
- Possible very light creasing (not breaking the card surface)
- Still tournament legal with sleeves
Best for: Casual players, budget decks
Heavily Played (HP)
What it means: The card shows significant wear from extensive play.
Characteristics:
- Heavy edge whitening on all edges
- Multiple scratches, scuffs, or surface wear
- Rounded or damaged corners
- Possible creases (not severe)
- Border wear or chipping
- May have minor dirt or staining
- Still playable with sleeves
Best for: Casual play, placeholder cards
Damaged (DMG)
What it means: The card has major damage affecting playability or appearance.
Characteristics:
- Severe creases, bends, or folds
- Water damage or staining
- Torn edges or corners
- Heavy surface damage
- Writing, marker, or ink marks
- May not be tournament legal even with sleeves
Best for: Art projects, proxies for testing, extreme budget options
Graded Cards (PSA, BGS, CGC)
We also carry professionally graded cards from major grading companies:
PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator)
- PSA 10 (Gem Mint): Perfect or near-perfect card
- PSA 9 (Mint): Minimal imperfections
- PSA 8 (NM-MT): Very slight wear
BGS (Beckett Grading Services)
- BGS 10 (Pristine): Perfect card with all sub-grades 10
- BGS 9.5 (Gem Mint): Near-perfect
- BGS 9 (Mint): Minimal wear
CGC (Certified Guaranty Company)
- CGC 10 (Pristine): Perfect card
- CGC 9.5 (Gem Mint): Near-perfect
- CGC 9 (Mint): Minimal imperfections
Foil & Holographic Cards
Foil and holographic cards are graded using the same standards, but we also inspect for:
- Foil scratches or scuffs
- Holo bleed or print lines
- Foil peeling or lifting
- Clouding or hazing on the foil surface
Our Grading Promise
We grade conservatively to ensure customer satisfaction. If you receive a card that doesn't match our listed condition, contact us within 7 days and we'll make it right with a replacement or refund.
